Almudena López disguises as Cristina Georgina, in the shape of a romantic
heroine. Key singer of Las Escarlatinas and Mate, Almudena is besides
a prominent flute player, a reputed architect and a talented designer/
illustrator. She is undoubtedly someone with something genuine and personal
to say. More importantly this timid Audrey Hepburn-delicate chanteuse
is willing to redefine herself as one of the most beautiful singing voices
in indiepop. Let's hope she can remain under the radar for a long time.
“Mapa mundi” is her first solo album but it has all the necessary components
for eternal alchemy and a sonic palette of pop numbers that make you think
of Isobel Campbell/Gentle Waves, La Buena Vida, Beatles, Coralie Clement,
Nico, Mate, Escarlatinas, Go- Betweens, Ephemera or Kiki D’aki. In few
words, pure pop music under the usual blue-blooded production of Ramón
Leal and Mateo Guiscafré.
